The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed new national security rules that could unintentionally prevent exhibitors from importing, displaying, and demonstrating certain new and emerging communications technologies at U.S. events and trade shows before those products have received final FCC authorization. For decades, the FCC has maintained a carefully controlled event and trade show exemption that allows these demonstrations while prohibiting the products from being sold or commercially deployed.

ECA is organizing an industry coalition letter urging the FCC to preserve this important exemption so that U.S. events and trade shows can continue to be global showcases for innovation while appropriate national security safeguards remain in place. So far, more than 60 industry companies and associations have signed onto ECA's draft comment letter, which will be submitted to the FCC on September 8, 2026.
